Biography
I’m Randy Millis, a multimedia journalist, advocate and longtime Kelowna resident running for Kelowna City Council in the 2026 municipal election.
My background includes journalism, radio, information technology, community and shelter support work, and approximately ten years running my own small consulting business.
Those experiences have taught me to investigate problems, communicate complicated issues, listen to people whose experiences are often overlooked, and look for practical solutions when systems are not working.
I also bring lived experience of disability and housing instability. I know personally how decisions about housing, accessibility, transportation and public services can affect someone’s ability to participate in their community.
That experience informs my perspective, but my experience is not everyone else’s. Good decisions require listening to the people affected.
Why I’m running
I believe we can work toward a Kelowna people can afford, access and belong in.
I believe local government should listen carefully, communicate clearly, examine the evidence and remain accountable to the people it serves.
My priorities include affordability and housing, accessibility that works, preventing homelessness, community resilience and an accountable City Hall.
How I would approach Council
I don’t pretend to have every answer. I want to listen, ask questions, understand the problem and determine what City Council can actually do before deciding on a solution.
That means hearing from residents and people affected by decisions, considering professional advice, examining the evidence, costs and alternatives, and then explaining the decision.
I’m willing to change my mind when better evidence changes the picture or someone makes a better argument.
I believe we should distinguish activity from outcomes. Announcing a program, approving a project or spending money tells us what government did. The more important question is what actually changed for residents?
If something isn’t producing the intended result, we should be willing to learn from it and change course when it makes sense.
I want to hear from you.
What is one realistic change City Council could make that would improve your daily life?
