Biography

submitted by the candidate or their team
Preeti Faridkot is an ABC Vancouver School Board Trustee running for re-election.

Preeti was motivated to run for School Board after her oldest son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Her family experienced first-hand the challenges parents face navigating the school system and ensuring children receive the support and accommodations they need. That experience reinforced her commitment to ensuring every student feels safe, included, supported, and able to succeed.

Serving as a Vancouver School Board Trustee has been one of the greatest honours of Preeti’s life. Over the past four years, she has championed transparency, accountability, and responsible decision-making while advocating for expanded Automated External Defibrillator (AED) installations, additional School and Student Support Assistants, expanded music and fine arts opportunities, support for the relocation of Ideal Mini School, the introduction of the School Liaison Officer program, financial literacy initiatives, and increased investment in Vancouver’s public schools.

Preeti believes meaningful progress comes from listening, collaborating, and building strong relationships with students, families, educators, community organizations, and government partners. Her experience on the School Board has given her a strong understanding of both the challenges facing Vancouver’s public education system and the opportunities to make it stronger.

Preeti’s family has deep roots in Vancouver. Her husband’s family has been part of the community for generations, and her grandfather spent many years serving Vancouver’s Sikh community. Their example taught her that leadership is about service, humility, integrity, and compassion.

Reason for running

submitted by the candidate or their team
Preeti is seeking re-election to continue putting students first, strengthening accountability and transparency, advocating for responsible financial stewardship, and ensuring every child in Vancouver has the opportunity to thrive.

I am running again because there is still more work ahead. Students need safe and supportive schools, families need clear communication and a voice in the system, and our growing communities need strong schools, programs and services that meet their needs.

My reason for running remains the same as it was four years ago: to listen, to advocate, and to keep students and families at the centre of the decisions we make.

One of the issues I continue to care deeply about is transparency. I believe public Board meetings should be a place where parents, students and staff can raise concerns openly, ask questions and understand how and why decisions are being made. People should feel that their voices matter and that there is a clear path to bring forward concerns when something is not working.

There has been many programs which has been cut in the past and for me personally, once a program is gone it is much harder to bring it back in the system. Same thing is with the school assets, we should never be closing schools.

For me, public education works best when students, parents, staff and trustees are able to communicate openly, listen to one another and work together to make our schools stronger.
