I am Carey Rutherford, an interculturalist and independent researcher based in Calgary, and I have most recently been developing a layman’s level presentation regarding the findings of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), to reduce universal “tergiversation” (A word they use meaning “to confuse with details,” which is an example of why I felt the need to become involved). In other projects, I have done presentations on the writing and interviewing process (When Words Collide Festival 2018), and at international conferences (2019 International Conference on Diversity in Organizations, Communities and Nations), and have been academically published (International Journal of Diverse Identities, 2019).

My role as Co-Chair with the Truth & Reconciliation sub-committee of the CAFTCG has given me many chances to bridge the gap between diverse parties while building presentations and relationships inside and outside of the sub-committee. Consequently, we have a strong relationship with the Calgary Police Service and local First Nations, resulting in our direct input to their hiring of Indigenous Resource Officers and Community Mobilizers to address the conflict and disparity present between the CPS and its most frequent arrest.
