Rick de Jong – Experienced Leadership. A Stronger West Kelowna.
Rick de Jong was first elected to West Kelowna City Council in 2011 and has served four full terms. He has represented the city on the Regional District of Central Okanagan board and its Economic Advisory Commission, and he now sits on the Kelowna Airport Advisory Committee. Rick grew up on a small farm in the Fraser Valley. He has spent 36 years in agri-business, now serves as Regional Manager for Canada, and is a registered Technical Agrologist. He and his wife Tracey have been married 34 years and have two adult children and a grandson.
Rick's priorities for 2026–2030
- Community Safety: Fire rescue and policing that keep pace with a growing city. That means the right equipment, facilities and staffing, clear performance measures, and open reporting on how service costs are shared with neighbouring communities.
- Fiscal Accountability: An open budget and spending you can actually follow. Financial information should be released earlier and in plain language. Council, not staff, should keep oversight of major spending, because the people you elect should be able to see where public money goes.
- Responsible Growth: Development planned around the infrastructure and emergency services needed to support it. Rick cast the only vote against the current Official Community Plan, which allows buildings of 12 to 19 storeys when fire services can protect buildings up to six. He also pushed for proper evacuation routes before any major growth in Glenrosa.
- Roads & Infrastructure: Continued investment in roads, sidewalks, bike paths and utilities. That includes finishing the sidewalk network and connecting cycling routes across the city.
