Biography

submitted to District of North Vancouver's elections office by the candidate
Two-term DNV Councillor, professional engineer and former NSMBA president. Mathew brings more than 15 years of major transportation infrastructure experience and community leadership in North Vancouver.

Mathew Bond is a professional engineer, community volunteer and father raising two daughters in North Vancouver. He also served two terms on District Council.

His approach to public service was shaped by his parents, who built a home-renovation business during the difficult economy of the early 1980s and still run it today. Growing up around their business taught him the value of hard work, service and building something that lasts.

Mathew graduated from Simon Fraser University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Systems Engineering and a Certificate in Sustainable Community Development. His career spans more than 15 years in the private and public sectors and includes major transportation infrastructure projects across British Columbia. In 2018, he stepped away from full-time engineering to care for his young children. During that time, he balanced parenting with consulting engineering, bicycle courier work, community volunteering and service as treasurer of the Lynn Valley Parent Participation Preschool. He returned to full-time engineering in 2022.

From 2008 to 2013, Mathew served as president of the North Shore Mountain Bike Association. He helped establish a clear direction, build the team and develop partnerships that allowed a volunteer group to grow into an organization with paid staff, strong community relationships and an engaged membership.

District residents elected Mathew to Council in 2014, and he served two terms through 2022. His work included transportation, major infrastructure, finance, heritage and regional housing. He advocated for affordable housing partnerships, safer active transportation and open, accountable public decision-making.

These experiences taught Mathew to listen carefully, connect different parts of a problem, test assumptions, identify risks early and explain trade-offs clearly. He wants to bring that grounded way of working back to Council again.

Reason for running

submitted by the candidate or their team
The next Council will make decisions about affordability, infrastructure, transportation and long-term costs that will shape North Vancouver for generations. I am running to help Council make responsible decisions and keep them grounded in how they affect daily life.
