Biography

submitted to Surrey's elections office by the candidate
Anne Whitmore is a leadership coach, education advocate and the current president of Surrey DPAC. She has spent years bringing together families, educators, support staff and decision-makers to strengthen public education through collaboration and thoughtful leadership.

Anne Whitmore is President of Surrey DPAC (on leave), leadership coach and longtime public education advocate. She built a collaborative advocacy model with the Surrey Teachers' Association and CUPE 728 that she presented at the BCTF Public Education Conference.

Anne's advocacy helped protect StrongStart programs, champion alternative education, bring Surrey's education needs to the Legislature and push for greater transparency and accountability in district decision-making. She has worked with families, education partners and provincial leaders across political lines to advocate for the resources Surrey students need.

Anne is running with Our Surrey because students deserve Enough Space to learn, Enough Support to succeed and Enough Trust in the people making decisions.

As trustee, she will bring experienced, collaborative leadership to the Board, ask hard questions, listen to the community and advocate for inclusive, well-resourced public schools where every student has the opportunity to thrive.

Reason for running

submitted by the candidate or their team
I'm running because students deserve enough space to learn, enough support to thrive and a Board that listens. After years of advocating for Surrey families, I want to help turn that advocacy into action, with decisions made alongside the communities our schools serve.

I'm running for school trustee because I believe public education belongs to everyone, and I want every student in Surrey to have access to the opportunities and supports they need to thrive.

As a parent and education advocate, I've spent years listening to families, working alongside educators and district leadership, and advocating for more inclusive, accessible and adequately funded public schools. I've seen what happens when families, educators and decision-makers work together. I've also seen how often parents and caregivers have to fight to get their children's needs met.

I believe we need to move beyond managing shortages and start planning for the schools and communities we want to build. That means enough space for students to learn, enough support for students and staff to succeed, and enough trust to make decisions with our communities, not just for them.

I'm running because I want to bring my experience, relationships and commitment to public education to the board table, where I can help turn advocacy into action.
