Independent for Ward 4 Councillor
Plan ahead, build infrastructure with growth, strengthen Kanata’s economy and demand value from City spending.

My goal is a city that grows without falling behind, protects what works and gives taxpayers confidence their money is being used well.

Biography

Entrepreneur and former capital markets professional who grew up in Kanata North.

I was born in Ottawa, my family moved to Kanata North when I was eight. I grew up here, attending St. Isidore and All Saints before studying at the University of Ottawa.

I later completed a Master of Financial Risk Management at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management. My professional background includes Treasury and Capital Markets at Scotiabank, where I worked in Global Equity Derivatives.

Today I run two small businesses. Senatus Group is an international trade advisory firm, and SeatLogic is a technology company.

My professional background has centred on financial risk, budgets, business strategy and execution. That is the experience I bring to municipal decisions involving growth, infrastructure, investment and public spending.

Reason for running

I’m running because Kanata North is growing faster than its infrastructure. I want to improve transit, build roads and stormwater capacity alongside growth, strengthen the Tech Park, and bring tighter financial discipline and accountability to City Hall.

Kanata North is growing, and that growth is putting more pressure on roads, transit, stormwater systems, parks and other City services. Too often, new homes and businesses arrive before the infrastructure needed to support them, leaving residents to deal with the consequences after the fact. Rob Millan for Kanata North

I’m running because I believe the City should plan further ahead. That means building transportation and infrastructure alongside growth, not years later, improving transit reliability, advancing Stage 3 LRT and the March Road rapid-transit corridor, and making sure major development is supported by the roads, sewers, parks and community services it requires.

I also want Kanata North to be more ambitious about its economic future. The Tech Park is one of Ottawa’s most important economic assets. Attracting more investment, businesses and jobs, while adding housing and amenities in appropriate locations, can strengthen both the local economy and the commercial tax base that helps fund City services.

Growth also has to respect what people value about Kanata North. That means improving flood resilience, maintaining parks and pathways, protecting mature trees where reasonably possible, and pursuing a fair solution for the former golf-course lands.

Ultimately, I’m running because I want City Hall to think longer term, spend more carefully and measure whether it actually delivers. Kanata was built by people who planned ahead. The next phase of its growth should be approached with the same mindset.
