Managing Nanaimo’s growth for affordability, sustainability, good-paying jobs and while caring for others.
A stronger local economy that makes smarter use of our employment lands, works for family-supporting jobs, and doesn’t forget our natural beauty and greenspaces. Our future is in green tech, blue tech, red tech (health care), advanced manufacturing, tourism and integration of our existing partnerships at the port, airport, ferries, transportation, post-secondary and schools without forgetting what’s already here
Affordable housing, including working for options in the missing middle, supportive housing, long-term care, co-housing, co-operative, ground-oriented housing, and density where we can support it
Safer, more connected communities close to people’s daily needs, with tree canopies, parks and greenspaces and good transportation options
Thoughtful, accountable leadership that brings in business case justification at the front end, not after committing the public’s funds; service standards with tracking; balanced scorecards; and improved community engagement and communication, so you know what’s working
A city with heart that cares, fosters inclusive public spaces, supports arts and culture, works for more health care options within the City’s mandate, advocates for a cath lab and patient tower, supports food security, and builds a Nanaimo that feels like home for everyone
Biography
We often hear about community wellbeing or economic priorities. Nanaimo needs leadership that brings those together.
There’s a gap on Council between social equity and governance and economic advocacy. I bridge that. See my Nanaimo City Council candidate site
I’ve worked on the Downtown Eastside and with the Fortune 500.
My Executive MBA and more than three decades of leadership across business and the non-profit sector have prepared me to make thoughtful, evidence-based decisions on complex issues, without losing site of humanity or the things that make Nanaimo feel like home.
I’m a practical, experienced leader who believes we can support a strong sustainable economy while building a more affordable, safer, livable city with good jobs and a high quality of life.
I grew up here, raised to try to make a difference. I built a career solving problems in business, government, education, and nonprofits. When life threw curveballs — maybe you relate — I got a first-hand understanding of housing affordability, caregiving, work, health care and rising costs.
That experience shapes my practical, long-term approach to working for real results. I’m here to bring us together for a Nanaimo that feels like home and doesn’t cost the earth.
